I take my dog Teddy for a walk everyday and I always take my iPhone. It has radically changed mt artwork as I am literally drawing everyday, which for me is like doing scales as an opera singer to warm up.
And I am obsessed with it. Right now I'm into just straight drawing with ArtSet. I've been doing color sketches for a while and then I began drawing yesterday and I love it. I got inspired when was shown one of Hockneys charcoal sketches - I saw them at his big exhibition at the DeYoung in SF. Hockney inspires me because of his amazing work ethic. He paints and draws all the time.
Well, thank god, I gave up smoking a while back (he's a chain smoker which is scary, but he seems to be doing okay). But I like to follow his lead in LOOKING and drawing what I see. For me it's the entrance point to doing good work.
It is kind of funny - when I see something I stop and my dog Teddy seems to be fine while I stand there and draw. No one seems to notice me much - they probably think I'm writing an email or looking at the latest Facebook post or whatever. Its like being in stealth mode.
Im shortly going to do a free online workshop on it at our mobileart.how website, and follow it with a series of lessons on using Art Set and Paper 53, my two favorite apps for iPhone sketching. I can't really deal with layers on the run. I'm sure there are other good sketching apps, but these seem to do the trick for me right now.
